This whole movie essentially is a convention is itself as most superhero films have a movie about the hero's origin or a section of the movie is about how they became who they are. Title suggests that it is an origin story as it says "begins".

In Batman's case he wears it for both and as he was a boy the bat scared him so it wears it to embrace his fears and get over. |
